In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s enduring legacy, Georgetown University presents its annual free musical tribute, Let Freedom Ring! Celebration. For the first time, the program will be hosted at the historic Howard Theatre and will include performances by Common. The event is scheduled for Monday, January 19, 2026, beginning at 6:00 p.m. During the evening, Georgetown will present the John Thompson Jr. Legacy of a Dream Award to Kowshara Thomas from Josephs House. Named in memory of former Georgetown basketball coach John Thompson Jr., who was celebrated for his steadfast dedication to dismantling barriers and advancing social and racial justice both on and off the court, this honor is given to an individual who embodies the spirit and courage of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Josephs House, established in 1990, offers medical respite care, end-of-life services, and supportive programs for individuals experiencing homelessness with HIV/AIDS or advanced illnesses in Washington, DC. Committed to compassionate care delivered with dignity and respect, Josephs House provides a crucial link to healthcare and social resources for each of its 20 residents and 20 to 25 former residents annually, ensuring that every person feels supported and empowered during their most vulnerable times.
