About the Event
Oscar Penas, a guitarist and composer whose work fuses jazz, classical music, and Spanish folk traditions, has established a distinctive voice in contemporary jazz. Born in Barcelona and now living in Brooklyn, he creates intimate compositions that draw from his multicultural heritage and dedication to artistic innovation. A graduate of Berklee College of Music and the New England Conservatory, Penas has led celebrated groups and worked with renowned musicians including Ron Carter, Esperanza Spalding, and Paquito D'Rivera. His forthcoming suite "Remote Hoods," commissioned by the New York State Council on the Arts, honors the cultural diversity of New York City. With performances at premier venues and an expanding collection of recordings, Penas continues to expand creative frontiers.
