AJ Lee & Blue Summit is an award-winning, energetic, charming band with technically impressive performances that has rapidly gained national attention on the roots music circuit. Hailing from Santa Cruz, California, the group met as teenagers and jammed together at local bluegrass festivals until one day they decided to form a band. The current lineup includes AJ Lee on mandolin, fiddler Jan Purat, and guitarists Scott Gates and Sullivan Tuttle. They still carry that youthful, festival-parking-lot energy but with genuine ease and confidence in their music-making. As they prepare for their third studio album, City of Glasstheir first release via Signature Soundsout July 19th, the bands product feels mature and fully realized while staying deeply rooted in the Blue Summit pocket. City of Glass is a slow-burn record that stands out when compared to recent releases from peers on the scene. Lee is most interested in discovering themselves, their own music, and sonics and textures truly theirs. They are also focused on working with their musical and Californian communities. Consequently, City of Glass is an album that blends country soul and gritty, bluesy Americana as much as it does rock club-ready string band fare, all framed through a California folk lens while appealing to a broader audience. AJ Lee & Blue Summit exemplify a band so unconcerned with being remembered or enshrined that they have created songs sure to be cherished forever. City of Glass may one day fade, but this music will never disappear.
