Agent Orange is an influential American punk rock group established in 1979 within Placentia, California. They are widely recognized as pioneers who merged surf music's melodic, reverberant sound with hardcore punk's raw energy, thereby founding the surf punk genre. The band rose during the height of Southern California's punk scene alongside acts like Social Distortion and The Adolescents. Their breakthrough arrived with the 1980 track Bloodstains, which became a regular on KROQ-FM's Rodney on the Roq program and was later included in the video game Tony Hawks Pro Skater 4. Lead guitarist and vocalist Mike Palm is the group's founder and only permanent member, steering the band through decades of worldwide touring and shifting lineups. Agent Orange remains an enduring presence in both punk and action sports culture, with their music regularly featured in skate and surf films. They continue to tour extensively in 2025, with scheduled performances extending into early 2026. Their influence is evident in major modern acts such as The Offspring and Pennywise, who adapted the melodic surf-influenced riffs that Palm pioneered.
