About the Event
Loudon Wainwright III was born in Chapel Hill and studied acting before leaving college to experience the Summer of Love in San Francisco, where he penned his first song, "Edgar," about a lobsterman from Rhode Island in 1968. His career gained momentum when "Dead Skunk" reached the Top 20 charts in 1972. Since then, he has earned a Grammy, released over twenty albums filled with honest and often humorous lyrics, and delivered live performances that energize audiences. His songs have been covered by artists including Bonnie Raitt, Johnny Cash, Earl Scruggs, Kate & Anna McGarrigle, his son Rufus Wainwright, Mose Allison, and others, and appear in films and stage productions.
