About the Event
Maurice MOBETTA Brown navigates three musical realmscontemporary jazz, blues-rock, and avant-garde hip hopwith equal mastery as trumpeter, composer, arranger, and producer. When he raises his instrument, his soulful melodies ascend into a rarefied domain that uniquely fuses be-bop with hip-hop and rock, forging a signature sonic identity. Born in Chicago, Brown earned the national Miles Davis Trumpet Competition while still a teenager before relocating to Louisiana to study under legendary clarinetist Alvin Batiste. His critically acclaimed debut album "HIP TO BOP," recorded in New Orleans, previewed his unique ability to craft fresh bop-inflected jazz with an urban heartbeat. Hurricane Katrina's devastation compelled him to move, carrying his horn to New York where he built his reputation by recording with Aretha Franklin, Wyclef Jean, De La Soul, Macy Gray, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Lettuce and The Roots.
