Hamburger has performed extensively across North America and internationally, including major venues like Madison Square Garden and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. He has toured with notable acts such as Faith No More and Robin Williams, and appeared on television programs including Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Tom Green Live, and Jimmy Kimmel Live. His 2015 album Live At Third Man, produced by Jack White in Nashville, was recognized by SPIN magazine among the greatest comedy albums of all time. The film Entertainment, which dramatizes his professional relationship with John C. Reilly alongside Tye Sheridan and Michael Cera, premiered at Sundance and Locarno Film Festivals before its 2015 release to positive critical reception. His latest Drag City album Still Dwelling features a notable three-person version of Jesus Christ Superstars Everythings Alright with Neil, performed with Mike Patton and Jack Black.
