About the Event
The orchestra established in 1946 under Sir Thomas Beecham received its royal designation from the Queen in 1966, affirming its unique standing within British musical life. Over many decades it has gathered and worked alongside some of the most inspiring musicians, including Rudolf Kempe, Antal Doráti, Walter Weller, André Previn, Vladimir Ashkenazy, and others. Vladimir Ashkenazy, Yuri Temirkanov and Daniele Gatti have all served as principal conductors, and in August 2021 Vasily Petrenko assumed the role of music director. This represents a significant milestone for the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, with both of his seasons since taking office receiving strong support from listeners and reviewers.
