About the Event
Delfeayo Marsalis is a celebrated trombonist, composer, and producer whose extensive career spans music theatre and education alongside his familys musical legacy. He has performed internationally with legends such as Ray Charles, Art Blakey, Max Roach, Elvin Jones, and Slide Hampton, while also leading his own ensembles. At seventeen, he launched a production career that produced over 120 recordings, earning one Grammy award and numerous nominations. In 2008, he established the Uptown Jazz Orchestraa dynamic group dedicated to preserving jazz traditions like riff playing, New Orleans polyphony, and improvisational arrangements. He also founded Uptown Music Theatre in 2000 as a nonprofit organization that trains youth through musical theatre. To date, he has written sixteen musicals drawing on history and community themes, composed more than ninety songs for childrens jazz education, and conducted over five thousand students nationwide with his Swinging with the Cool School workshops. Marsalis holds two bachelor degrees from Berklee College of Music in performance and production, a master degree in jazz performance from the University of Louisville, and has received a doctorate from New England College.
