About the Event

Rev Roderick Paulin & The CongregationRoderick Rev Paulin is an accomplished saxophonist, composer, arranger, and instructor from New Orleans, Louisiana. He comes from a celebrated musical family as the son of Ernest Doc Paulin, a prominent brass band leader who shaped local jazz traditions. Paulin started his professional career in sixth grade performing with his brothers in his father's Dixieland Jazz Band. For over forty years he has worked with many notable musicians including Allen Toussaint, the Neville Brothers, Jimmy Buffett, Kermit Ruffins, and Branford Marsalis. His time with ReBirth Brass Band in the late 1980s was especially important as he created new compositions and arrangements that brought fresh energy to brass band music and reached younger audiences. Outside of performing Paulin is a committed teacher and mentor. He teaches jazz at Southern University and has been faculty at Louis Armstrong Summer Jazz Camp for more than ten years, helping develop the next generation of musicians. His academic work led him to earn a Master of Music from Louisiana State University where he is now pursuing a doctorate in music education. Paulin's diverse career reflects New Orleans' rich cultural heritage, blending traditional jazz with modern influences and continuing to shape the city's musical scene.Tonight Paulin presents his congregation experience.Roderick Paulin - saxophone, clarinetDoug Belote - drumsAurlien Barnes - trumpetJolynda Phillips - vocalsBrian Quezerque - bassPaul Logstreth - pianoShows begin at 7:30pm and 9:30pm with doors opening at 7:00pm and 9:00pm.
