About the Event

Oscar Rossignoli, a pianist of Honduran heritage, weaves together classical training with his deep love for Latin and North American jazz styles. Based in New Orleans today, he collaborates regularly with top local musicians such as John Boutt, Jason Marsalis, Gladney, Amina Scott, Yusa and others. He has built a strong reputation through various groups including the EXTENDED trio featuring Matt Booth and Brad Webb, and by leading his own quartet and trio. Oscar received a Masters degree from the University of New Orleans, where he was named the 2015-2016 ASCAP Louis Armstrong Scholar and finished as a finalist in the 2018 Ellis Marsalis International Jazz Piano Competition. Tonight he performs a tribute to Thelonious Monk (1917-1982), an influential American jazz pianist and composer widely considered one of the key figures in modern jazz. Known for his distinctive playing style characterized by angular melodies, unexpected pauses, percussive touch, and complex harmonies, Monk helped shape bebop alongside artists like Dizzy Gillespie and Charlie Parker. He composed many enduring jazz standards including Round Midnight, Blue Monk, and Straight No Chaser that remain widely performed today. Although his unconventional approach initially confused some audiences, Monks genius and innovation eventually earned him critical acclaim, cementing his legacy as one of the most important figures in jazz history. Tonight's performance includes Oscar Rossignoli on piano, Amina Scott on bass, and Nygel Anderson on drums. Shows begin at 7:30pm and 9:30pm with doors opening at 7:00pm and 9:00pm respectively.
