Herlin Riley Quartet Herlin Riley is a celebrated jazz drummer, composer, and educator known for his rhythmic mastery and deep connection to New Orleans musical traditions. Born in New Orleans, Riley grew up surrounded by the city's lively culture and rich musical history. He started playing drums at age three and later learned trumpet before fully focusing on percussion. After studying music at Southern University, Riley quickly became a sought-after drummer, performing with jazz legends such as Ahmad Jamal, George Benson, and Harry Connick Jr. His skillful fusion of traditional New Orleans rhythms with modern jazz elements has made him a central figure in contemporary jazz. Riley gained international recognition as a long-time member of Wynton Marsaliss ensembles, including the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, where his powerful grooves and precise timing added distinctive energy to their performances. Beyond collaborations, Riley released several albums as a bandleader, such as New Direction, showcasing his innovative compositions and leadership. A passionate educator, he has taught masterclasses and mentored young musicians, sharing the essence of New Orleans jazz with audiences worldwide. Only cheese and charcuterie tray options are available for table service in the intimate venue to preserve the quiet focus of world-class concerts. We encourage arriving at least 90 minutes before showtime to enjoy full dinner service in the Dining Room right next door, then being seated in the Music Room for your ticketed performance.
