About the Event
Dr. Michael White's original Liberty Jazz Band presents live performances led by Dr. Michael White, a celebrated clarinetist, bandleader, composer, historian, musicologist and educator recognized as one of the foremost authorities and cultural ambassadors of traditional New Orleans jazz music. In 2015, he produced and performed on the album New Orleans Brass Bands: Through the Streets of the City for the Smithsonian Institution. He has also served as guest director at Jazz at Lincoln Center programs. Dr. White holds the position of senior professor of African American music at Xavier University. Over more than three decades in his career, he has toured internationally and recorded with Wynton Marsalis, Eric Clapton, Taj Mahal, Paul Simon, and Marianne Faithful. He received the rank of Chevalier de Arts, the highest honor in traditional and folk arts. In 2010, he was named Humanist of the Year by the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities. His local recognitions include Clarinetist of the Year by Offbeat Magazine in 2010, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016. Performances begin at 7:30pm and 9:30pm; doors open at 7:00pm and 9:00pm respectively. The restaurant is open from 5pm to 10pm for dinner before or after the concert. Advance ticket holders may now automatically reserve tables in the Dining Room online via OpenTable.com, and can also make reservations for table service in the adjacent restaurant by emailing reservations@snugjazz.com after purchasing tickets online for the Music Room. Dinner service without advance concert tickets is first-come, first-served based on availability upon arrival. The full bar is open from 5pm to midnight for all guests, whether they hold tickets or not. Please note that Snug Harbor does not serve the complete menu inside the Music Room; only cheese and charcuterie trays are available for table service there. To maintain the integrity, quiet atmosphere and focus of our world-class intimate concerts, only charcuterie, cocktails and soft drinks are offered for table service within the Music Room. We encourage you to arrive at least 90 minutes before your showtime to enjoy full, relaxing dinner service in the Dining Room right next door before being seated in the Music Room for your ticketed performance.
