Annual Danny Barker Birthday Tribute with Detroit Brooks & Friends

Detroit Brooks, Snug Harbor, and the New Orleans Jazz Museum celebrate Danny Barkers birthday each year, honoring one of New Orleans most revered musicians. Born in 1909 and passing away on March 13, 1994, Barker was a guitarist, banjoist, composer, and vocalist whose work with Louis Armstrong, Cab Calloway, Billie Holiday, and others shaped the citys musical soul. He also founded the Fairview Baptist Church Brass Band in the 1980s, nurturing jazz talent at Snug Harbor before his death. His memoir A Life In Jazz remains a landmark account of New Orleans cultural heritage. Performances occur nightly at 7:30pm and 9:30pm; doors open an hour early.
