About the Event
After more than ten years of friendship and shared touring, Tyler Ramsey and Carl Broemel have finally released their first full album together on Celestun Records, set for January 15. The record showcases their deep musical understanding and close bond through nine original songs recorded almost entirely on acoustic guitars. While they began the sessions with an all-instrumental approach, vocal tracks were naturally added during the process. Tracks like the title song "Flying Things"which features backing vocals from The Secret Sistersand a reimagined version of Neil Young's "Sail Away" display both technical skill and emotional depth, combining Ramseys fingerstyle technique with Broemels classical training in a rustic yet atmospheric cycle. At its core, Celestun strips away pretense to explore personal themes about wandering, family love, friendship, and shared adventure. As Broemel put it, "We don't step on each other's toes; we kind of fit together like puzzle pieces." Ramsey added, "I feel there is some magical connection between our two things...it just makes me smile." He noted that when he adds a part to one of his songs, they both sense what was missing. Broemel expressed the same feeling about Ramseys work: "When I put a part to one of his songs, we both have this feeling like that's what exactly what was missing." Previously, Broemel has released solo material over twenty years, including the 2019 EP Brokenhearted Jubilee with drummer Eric Hopper and recent projects with The Futurebirds. Ramsey gained recognition for his role as lead guitarist in Band of Horses before launching a solo career that includes the acclaimed 2024 album New Lost Ages, praised by Americana UK as a gentle indie-folk gem.
