About the Event
John Cowan, celebrated voice of Newgrass and former member of Doobie Brothers, teams up with acclaimed fiddler Andrea Zonn to launch The HercuLeonsa new musical venture inspired by Leon Russells influence and heavy musical craftsmanship. This six-piece ensemble delivers expert musicianship and soulful vocals, weaving Appalachian, soul, rock, jazz, and pop Americana into a distinctive sonic blend. Born in spring 2020 during the global pandemic, the project began as remote audio exchanges between Los Angeles and Nashville among Cowan, Zonn, and producer Wendy Waldman. What started as a musical dialogue has blossomed into a shared passion for classic songs, studio artistry, and dynamic live shows. Their debut album is scheduled for release later this year. Cowans powerful tenor voice, honed over four decades in bluegrass, country, gospel, soul, jazz, and rock, earns him deep respect from peers and audiences alike. His ability to shift seamlessly between genres captivates listeners at every concert. Alongside Sam Bush, Courtney Johnson, Curtis Burch, Bela Fleck, and Pat Flynn, Cowan helped pioneer New Grass Revivala groundbreaking bluegrass act that earned induction into the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame in October 2020. Andrea Zonn stands out as a versatile artist whose classical and traditional skills have led her to perform with James Taylor, Vince Gill, Lyle Lovett, and others across decades.
