About the Event
The Lexington Chamber Orchestra presents its inaugural 2026 concert featuring a world premiere by Grammy Award-winning violinist-composer Zach Brock: What Remains, scored for solo violin and orchestra. The work explores themes of return and transformation, weaving together musical references to Barber, Prokofiev, Bartók, Coltrane, Ellington, and Shorter with recurring refrains inspired by a villanelle central to the compositions structure. Improvised sections are woven throughout, creating at times contrapuntal exchanges between soloist and ensemble, while cadenzas echo the older tradition of spontaneous violin performance.
