About the Event
For more than half a century, Tower of Power has consistently provided top-tier funk and soul music. Emilio Castillo remembers when the group performed as The Motowns. Rocco served as bassist while his brother played drums; he joined that lineup in 1968 after receiving an audition from Doc Kupka, who later became a member. They eventually rebranded themselves as Tower of Power. East Bay Grease shaped their distinctive sound and secured them a contract with Warner Brothers. Their 1972 debut album for the label included the hit single Bump City, which charted on both the Billboard 200 and R&B charts. The early 1970s marked an era of success, producing radio favorites like So Very Hard to Go and What Is Hip?. Throughout the decade, they continued touring and recording. Castillo notes that their passion for performing remains unchanged from 1968 to today. Admission ranges from $85 to $115. Club policies include first-come, first-served seating; a minimum spend of $20 per person on food or drinks; full bar service with an extensive dinner menu available; no refunds or exchanges; and the requirement that attendees confirm they have tickets for the correct date and time.
