About the Event

Thursday evening at Three Top Lounge features Nightcap, an interdisciplinary lecture series co-presented by Chicago Humanities, Sexpectations, the Gray Center at the University of Chicago, and the MCA. Each forty-minute session starts at seven p.m., pairing intellectual discourse with a signature cocktail from the lounge. The inaugural talk welcomes Tina Post, author, researcher, and English Literature professor at the University of Chicago, to explore coziness as an aesthetic category. Drawing on Sianna Ngais framework, she examines how we culturally name something cozytreating it as a socially informed perception of form tied to judgment about that form. She investigates who gets included or excluded from this category in the process. The talk traces some ways coziness is constituted and raises problematics inherent in its classification.
