The 1899 Enigma Variations by Edward Elgar became an immediate success and continues to engage audiences across generations. The piece has been featured in films including Dunkirk (2017) and The Matrix (1999), as well as the funeral services of Princess Diana and Queen Elizabeth II. This week, conductor David Danzmayr presents a diverse program featuring several works by Barnum & Bailey for Atlanta Symphony Orchestra musicians. Pianist Yeol Eum Son returns to perform Shostakovich's Piano Concerto No. 2. The concert begins with Duke Ellington's lively tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and concludes with Elgar's Enigma Variations.
