The 1899 Enigma Variations by Edward Elgar became an immediate success and continues to win over new audiences each generation. The piece has been featured in films including Dunkirk (2017) and The Matrix (1999), as well as the solemn funeral services for Princess Diana and Queen Elizabeth II. This week, guest conductor David Danzmayr leads a program of eclectic works for the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra's top musicians. Pianist Yeol Eum Son returns to perform Shostakovichs lively Piano Concerto No. 2. The concert begins with Duke Ellingtons swinging tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and concludes with Elgars dramatic Enigma Variations.
