America@250: Copland + Barber

Leonard Slatkin, celebrated for his distinctive American musical sensibility, leads the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra in two major works by American composers of the twentieth century. The concert begins with an American premiere of Slatkins own orchestral work inspired by Franz Schubert. Violinist Randall Goosby performs Samuel Barbers deeply romantic Violin Concerto. The evening continues with Aaron Coplands Third Symphony, a powerful and stirring piece that builds to a climactic finale featuring Fanfare for the Common Man.
