America@250: Copland + Barber

Leonard Slatkin conducts two major American compositions in this program that celebrates twentieth-century music. Young violinist Randall Goosby performs Samuel Barbers Violin Concerto, a deeply romantic work. The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra then presents Aaron Coplands Third Symphony, featuring the iconic Fanfare for the Common Man as its powerful finale. The evening opens with Slatkin conducting an American premiere of his own orchestration of Schuberts music.
